Do you have a set reading time (before bed, perhaps)? Do you read more at night or during the day? Is there a day of the week, perhaps, that you set aside to catch up on reading?

I try to read during the day, but day time presents a lot of distraction. There are interruptions, errands, and responsibilities in the day time that aren’t an issue at night time. Reading is a great way to unwind, too, so I like to do it in bed where I can read myself to sleep. Reading is my favorite sit in bed under the covers propped up on pillows activity.

So … any Reading Resolutions? Say, specific books you plan to read? A plan to read more ____? Anything at all?

Name me at least ONE thing you’re looking forward to reading this year!

My book list for this year is so long, so extensive, that I have a lot to look forward to reading. Now that I have more time for pleasure reading, the possibilities are endless. For now, though, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the Southern Vampire/Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris. I am also looking forward to reading the last book in the Deviations series by Chris Owen and Jodi Payne. Other than that, I’m just looking forward to reading.

1. Do you get to read as much as you WANT to read?

If I had the attention span, the time, and the stamina, I would love to read all day long. I would get up to shower and eat, maybe to use the restroom, but I would definitely read all day long. Unfortunately for me, I don’t have the energy for that. I would get too sleepy and end up sleeping most of the time. Or I’d feel bad for being lazy and get up to do something else. And, man, I wouldn’t have enough money to fund such a lavish lifestyle of all day and night book reading!

I definitely get to read a lot more now that I am not in college. In college, all I had time to do was read for class, study, do work and sleep. Now I have some free time, which allows me to chill out and finally read for pleasure.

2. If you had (magically) more time to read–what would you read? Something educational? Classic? Comfort Reading? Escapism? Magazines?

I have read enough education to last me a lifetime! I would read a mixture. As a former history major and certified social studies teacher, a good nonfiction book is pleasure to me. I really enjoy reading things based on history, so more than half the books on my pending list are educational in nature. Classics, too. I would just start at the top of my pending pile and read. There would be books on Roman Emperors, fiction books about vampires and D/s relationships, books about Vietnam and economic development in China. It would be a wide variety of books.

You guys know that one thing I don’t do a lot of here are memes. I think a lot of the time they are just silly and I don’t have the patience to sit down and do them. But, occasionally, I see one that does seem interesting or that I just can’t help but do.

For your sake and the front page of this blog, I will put the list under a cut.

At 11:51pm on Friday, June 20th, I pointed to the clock in my boyfriends SUV and said, “in less than ten minutes, the world will erupt into chaos.”

There was a strange stillness to the air, a calm that portends danger to come. The roads were strikingly empty for a Friday night, the occasional car passing or merging onto a highway that was usually packed at this hour on this night of the week.

On Saturday, Alfee and I decide to go to the Greenbrier Mall because that particular one has a pet store and puppies to look at. I saw the book and told him I wanted it because I do. And, I only have a month left during which pleasure reading will be possible. After August 25th, my entire year will be spent reading books for classes.

And, I also wanted to be part of one of the biggest events of the century. Sometimes, you just have to go with the flow of the hype. I mean, I bet a lot of people who could have gone to Woodstock but didn’t feel like tools for not wanting to consort with the “dirty hippies” and summarily missing their chance at storytelling fame.

So, while I enjoy the series, I do think that the majority of the fanbase are absolutely insane. Especially the Above 16 crowd who attend book parties and Harry Potter gatherings dressed up like characters. It’s like Children’s Book Cosplay. Especially overweight old ladies dressed up as Draco.

Anyway, I finally started reading it last night. So far it’s a… book.

The best part to me is the fact that the book is, most amusingly, the fake copy that almost no one wanted it to be. Every time I read a part of the book that people used as evidence as to its “fakeness,” I laugh a little (okay, a lot) inside.

Because Harry Potter is SERIOUS business.

Because of spoilers ahead, I will post everything else underneath a cut. If you want to read, click. If you don’t… well, don’t.
