How many bookstores do you frequent? Do you have a favourite? If so, which one and what makes it so?
I wish that I could say that I patronize local, small book sellers, but I don’t. I usually head for the large chain stores like Barnes and Noble and Borders because I appreciate the atmosphere and the selection. I like to get a coffee and wander around the aisles plucking books that look interesting to take a test read. I might end up with four books and a selection of my favorite horror culture magazines (Fangoria, Rue Morgue, and Horror Hound). Each book will be studied carefully. If I like the book, I mark it down in my special notebook reserved for such a purpose for later purchase.
In truth, most of my books are bought from Barnes and Noble or online. If I don’t get a good deal at Amazon.com, I will check out eBay and see what I can get for $5. I’m all about saving money. These novels tend to be blind purchases because I don’t usually check them out beforehand, which is why I want to get them for as cheap as possible. Though, I have recently taken to purchasing even books I have sampled and do what through eBay. It really depends on how good the copy is and how much cheaper it is than if bought at a bookstore. I don’t want to pay $10 for a used copy, not when I can pay that much for a new copy at Barnes and Noble.
I think it is safe to say that I don’t have a favorite store for books, but I do for browsing and lounging around in. For books, I just shop where ever has what I want for the cheapest price.

I’m all about shopping local, and I love the idea of having a local bookstore. It’s all very quaint in my mind. But, is it just me or are small bookstores getting harder and harder to find? Since there is no small bookstore within 50 miles of my hometown, I end up doing my shopping in a Chapters, or at Amazon.. wherever I can get a good deal.
@Vanessa- They are getting harder and harder to find. I remember shopping around small and used bookstores all the time with my mother as a kid. Now I can only find about three within a 30 mile radius of me. None that I can easily get to, either. It’s very sad. I guess I am part of the problem, though, by shopping at Amazon and Barnes and Noble instead of supporting smaller sellers.
