I'm totally with you on this. I don't usually initiate conversations with random people but will politely answer when spoken to. And I can't help but take note of what books I see people reading. There was this one time though, where I was at a bookstore and two people were having a long discussion about whether or not their niece(or something like that) would like the book they were looking at(neither of them being familiar with the series or possibly even the author) and after awhile, I nipped in and mentioned that I'd read it and enjoyed it.
